About
Located deep in the Sierra foothills approximately 80 miles northeast of Fresno, Eshom Campground occupies a scenic setting in the Giant Sequoia National Monument at 4,800 feet elevation. The campground is nestled among Ponderosa pine, cedar, and Giant Sequoia trees within the Hume Lake Ranger District of Sequoia National Forest. Eshom Creek runs along the campground boundary, with several sites bordering the water and an old road (foot traffic only) providing creek access. The campground has 23 multi-family sites split between two sections. The west section features two loops with potable water spigots throughout; sites 2-5 are best suited for slide-ins and tents. The east section is more rustic with a spur ending in a loop, stone fire rings, irregular parking aprons, and no potable water. A fenced horse pasture is available for equestrian campers. Blackberries and gooseberries grow around the campground. Access requires navigating winding rural roads with rough conditions including dirt surfaces, potholes, and large berms within the campground. RVs over 25 feet are not recommended due to sharp curves and limited signage. Avoid GPS routing via unpaved Forest Road 14S45, which requires high-clearance vehicles. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are approximately 25 miles away via Highway 245.
Directions
From Fresno: Go east on Highway 180 to Highway 245, turn right, continue to Badger, then turn left on Whitaker Forest Drive. Follow approximately 9 miles to Eshom Campground on the right side of the road. RVs over 25 feet not recommended due to sharp curves. Avoid GPS routing via Forest Road 14S45 (high clearance required).
