About
Azalea Campground is centrally located in the Grant Grove area of Kings Canyon National Park at 6,500 feet elevation. The campground occupies a mixed conifer forest of sugar pines, incense cedars, white firs, and giant sequoias. Summer days are warm and dry with cool nights; spring and fall bring variable weather, and winters are cold with snow. Wildlife includes black bears, mule deer, gray squirrels, and golden-mantled ground squirrels. From your campsite, you can walk to the General Grant Tree grove, which includes the Nation's Christmas Tree and the only living memorial to U.S. military veterans. Ella Falls, a 50-foot waterfall, and Panoramic Point with its views of the High Sierra are also accessible via short hikes. Grant Grove Village is a few minutes away and offers a visitor center, restaurant, gift shop, market, and post office. All 110 sites include a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food storage locker. Flush toilets and potable water are available year-round. There are no hookups or dump stations; the nearest dump stations are at Dorst Creek Campground or Princess Campground in Sequoia National Forest. Check-in and check-out are at noon. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Generators are allowed between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Directions
From Fresno, take Highway 180 East for approximately 1.5 hours to the Kings Canyon National Park entrance. The campground is 3.5 miles past the entrance in the Grant Grove area. Vehicles over 22 feet should use the Kings Canyon entrance rather than entering through Sequoia National Park due to road restrictions between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum.
