About

Azalea Campground is centrally located in the Grant Grove area of Kings Canyon National Park, just 3.5 miles from the park entrance at an elevation of 6,500 feet. The campground is set within a mixed conifer forest of sugar pines, incense cedar, white fir, and giant sequoias, providing ample shade and a serene mountain atmosphere. The location offers exceptional access to some of the park's premier attractions. From the campground, visitors can hike to the General Grant Grove, home to the General Grant Tree, known as the Nation's Christmas Tree and the only living memorial to U.S. military veterans. Other nearby trails lead to Ella Falls, a 50-foot waterfall, and Panoramic Point, which offers breathtaking views of the High Sierra. The campground is within an hour's drive of both the Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park and the Cedar Grove area of Kings Canyon. Wildlife is abundant in this area, including black bears, mule deer, gray squirrels, golden-mantled ground squirrels, and numerous bird species. Proper food storage in the provided metal lockers is mandatory. The campground operates year-round with seasonal variations: from May through October, all 110 sites are reservable, while from November through April, only 20 sites remain open on a first-come, first-served basis. Summer days are typically warm and dry with cool nights, while winters bring cold temperatures and snow.

Directions

From Fresno, take Highway 180 East for approximately 1.5 hours to the Kings Canyon National Park entrance. The campground is 3.5 miles from the entrance in the Grant Grove area. Vehicles over 22 feet should use the Kings Canyon entrance rather than entering through Sequoia National Park.
