Sunset Campground

About

Sunset Campground occupies a prime location in Kings Canyon National Park's Grant Grove area, surrounded by a mixed evergreen forest at 6,500 feet elevation. The campground features 158 sites including individual tent/RV sites and two group sites accommodating 15-30 people each. All sites are reservation-only through Recreation.gov, with individual reservations opening one month in advance and group reservations four months ahead. The campground provides seasonal flush toilets, potable water, and trash collection. Each site includes a bear-proof food storage locker, fire ring, and picnic table. No hookups or dump stations are available on site; the nearest dump stations are at Dorst Creek Campground or Princess Campground in Sequoia National Forest. Grant Grove Village, located nearby, offers a camp store, firewood sales, and other services. Hiking trails begin within walking distance, including the one-mile trail to the General Grant Tree (the Nation's Christmas Tree), Ella Falls, and Panoramic Point with panoramic Sierra Nevada views. The Giant Forest and Cedar Grove are within an hour's drive, and fishing at Hume Lake is 30 minutes away.

Directions

From Fresno, take Highway 180 East for 55 miles to Kings Canyon National Park. Three miles east of the Big Stump Entrance Station, Sunset Campground is on the left, directly across from Kings Canyon Visitor Center.
