About

Ellery Lake Campground occupies a stunning high-alpine setting at 9,500 feet on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada, perched along the shore of Ellery Lake. Located just east of Tioga Pass and minutes from Yosemite National Park's eastern entrance, the campground serves as a gateway to both the park and the surrounding Inyo National Forest backcountry. The campground has 12 sites, all first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. Each site includes a bear-resistant food storage locker, which must be used as this is active bear country. Vault toilets are provided, and drinking water is available from a hand pump. Some sites can accommodate vehicles up to 28 feet, though many sites lack room for a second vehicle. A 14-day stay limit applies. Due to its high elevation, the campground operates seasonally, typically opening in late May or early June once snow clears and closing in fall before winter sets in. Heavy snowpack years may delay opening. The area offers access to outstanding fishing at Ellery Lake and nearby Tioga and Saddlebag lakes, plus trailheads into the Hoover Wilderness and Yosemite high country.

Directions

From US 395 in Lee Vining, head west on CA-120 (Tioga Road) for approximately 10 miles. The campground is on the right, just east of Tioga Pass and the Yosemite National Park boundary.
