Elkhorn Valley Recreation Site

Closed — Closed due to heavy wildfire damage from the 2020 Santiam Canyon Fires. The BLM is working on trail reconstruction but no reopening date has been announced.

About

Elkhorn Valley Recreation Site is a Bureau of Land Management campground located on the Little North Santiam River, approximately 8.5 miles up North Fork County Road from Highway 22. The site is nestled in a forested canyon environment featuring stunning natural features including deep emerald pools, surrounding cliffs, waterfalls, and old-growth forest. The Little North Santiam River offers some of the best swimming opportunities in Oregon during hot summer days. The campground provides 23 family campsites, each equipped with a fire pit (some with attached barbecue grills), picnic table, tent pad, and designated paved parking. The facility also includes four picnic sites, vault toilets, potable water when operational, and hiking trails with river access. Campground hosts and a security gate provide oversight during the operating season. No hookups are available at any of the campsites. Elkhorn Valley Recreation Site was heavily damaged by the 2020 Santiam Canyon Fires. The BLM has been working on trail system reconstruction and restoration efforts. Nearby alternatives include Canyon Creek Recreation Site (downstream, day-use only) and Fishermen's Bend Recreation Site along Highway 22.
