Eighteen Lake Rustic Campground

Eighteen Lake Rustic Campground sits under a canopy of tall red pines on the shore of Eighteen Lake in Minnesota's Superior National Forest. This small, no-fee campground offers three primitive sites ideal for tent camping or smaller RVs seeking a quiet weekend in the northwoods. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table, with vault toilets available nearby. The campground serves as a base for exploring the surrounding forest. A loop trail winds around Eighteen Lake through beautiful old-growth red pine stands. A carry-down boat access provides easy entry for canoes and kayaks to explore the lake. Anglers should note that fish cleaning remains must be packed out along with all other garbage, as there is no trash service. This is a true backcountry-style experience: bring all your own drinking water (lake water requires treatment), pack out everything you pack in, and expect no amenities beyond the basics. Sites are first-come, first-served with no reservations. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed and kept in your tent or vehicle at night.

Directions

From MN 61 at Illgen City, turn north on MN 1 and drive approximately 23 miles to Isabella. At Isabella, instead of following MN 1 as it turns sharply left, turn right onto Forest Road 172 (Wanless Road). Drive 1 mile to FR 369 (Trappers Lake Road) and turn left. Drive 2 miles to Eighteen Lake Road and turn left. The campground is at the end of the road, about 0.5 miles.
