About

T-Lake Backcountry Campsite is a remote, near-wilderness camping destination in Superior National Forest near Tofte, Minnesota. The 295-acre lake features 6 miles of shoreline and reaches a maximum depth of 15 feet, offering opportunities for fishing walleye, northern pike, crappie, and perch. Access is via carry-down boat launch on the east side of the lake, with portage connections to Silver Island Lake (300 yards) and an unmaintained trail from Windy Lake. Two dispersed campsites are available, each equipped with a fire grate and wilderness latrine. Some sites may have a picnic table. These backcountry sites operate outside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, so no permits or fees are required. Sites are first-come, first-served with a maximum group size of nine people. Campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all garbage. Only existing facilities may be used for fires, tents, and waste; creating additional fire rings, tent pads, trenches, or cat holes is prohibited. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed (6 feet or shorter) when not in tents and kept in tents at night. Pet food must be stored in bear-resistant containers.

Directions

From Tofte: Take MN-61 South for 2.4 miles, then Windy Lake Road/Highway 7 for 23 miles. A small stream crossing leads to the lake. Park to avoid blocking traffic as there is no designated parking lot. Carry-down access on the east side of the lake.
