Scioto Shooting Range Safety Closure December 30

Forest Service staff plan to conduct hazard tree mitigation at the Scioto Shooting Range on December 30.  The range will be closed on December 30 while crews address hazardous trees at the site.  Shooting will not be allowed at Scioto Shooting Range on December 30.

Little Sylco Project closes portion of FS 221

The US Forest Service plans to disrupt access to portions of FS 221 beginning Nov. 10 south of Parksville Lake while permanent water crossing repairs are completed to improve access across the Cherokee National Forest in Polk County.

Big Oak Cove Campground is one of several small campgrounds located along the scenic Tellico River Road (Forest Service Road 210) in the Cherokee National Forest. This intimate 11-site campground offers a tranquil setting with the cool waters of the Tellico River just feet away, making it an ideal basecamp for anglers and nature enthusiasts. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Payment can be made on-site using cash or check, or via the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature where available. The campground features vault toilets but does not provide drinking water, though water is available at nearby campgrounds along the river corridor. Located approximately 22 miles from Tellico Plains via TN 165 and Forest Service Road 210, the campground offers convenient access to the Tellico River's excellent trout fishing opportunities and surrounding forest trails. The rustic setting and riverside location make it a peaceful retreat for those seeking a back-to-basics camping experience in the Cherokee National Forest.

Directions

From Tellico Plains, turn onto TN 165 for approximately 5 miles, then turn right onto Forest Service Road 210 past the Ranger Station. The campground is approximately 17 miles upstream on the right.
