Dale Hollow Damsite
Closed — Closed for the season. The campground typically reopens in early April and operates through late fall. All riverfront sites remain closed due to a bank slide that has caused erosion and safety hazards. Limited to 14-day stay within a 30-consecutive day period.
From Recreation.gov
All riverfront sites are closed and not usable. A significant bank slide has caused the adjacent riverbank and/or the campsite to wash away. These sites are not safe, and closures are placed to minimize hazard to the public. We regret the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. A reopen date on some of these sites is not yet available.
About
Dale Hollow Damsite Campground offers a serene camping experience in the rolling hills of northern Tennessee. Located near Dale Hollow Dam and Lake, completed in 1943 for flood control and power generation, the area now attracts over 3 million visitors annually. The campground features 72 single-party sites, three group sites, and one large picnic shelter, with 50-amp electric and water hookups on all sites except site 37. Paved sites are available for RVs, along with gravel sites suitable for tents or wheeled units. Dale Hollow is renowned for its fishing, yielding the world record smallmouth bass and offering exceptional smallmouth fishing in the lake and rainbow and brown trout fishing in the Obey River below the dam. With 27,700 surface acres of water and 620 miles of shoreline, boating and water skiing are popular pursuits. A one-mile paved walking and biking trail winds through forest and streamside areas. The campground is a prime location for viewing American Bald Eagles, which winter here in significant numbers from late fall through early spring. The adjacent Dale Hollow National Fish Hatchery, the largest federal trout hatchery east of the Mississippi, produces 1.5 million trout annually and welcomes daily visitors. The campground is located in a low-lying area and may experience standing water during heavy rain periods. Gates close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Alcohol is prohibited, and only certified heat-treated firewood or kiln-dried lumber may be burned.
