Crystal Cove State Park Beach Cottages provides a distinctive lodging experience within a federally listed Historic District featuring 46 vintage coastal cottages. These rustic structures, dating back nearly a century, offer direct beach access along 3.2 miles of pristine Orange County coastline. The cottages have been carefully restored while preserving their original character and quirks, providing guests with an authentic glimpse into Southern California's coastal history. Accommodations range from cozy two-person retreats to spacious cottages sleeping up to nine guests, with nightly rates between $53 and $338. Recent additions include dorm-style options with private rooms in Cottages 29, 38, and 39, available on a 30-day rolling reservation calendar. Phase III restoration is currently underway, adding 22 additional overnight rental units to the collection. The property is part of Crystal Cove State Park, one of Orange County's largest remaining examples of open space and natural seashore, encompassing 2,400 acres of backcountry wilderness and an offshore underwater area. Reservations are made through ReserveCalifornia.com, with availability opening seven months in advance on the first of each month at 8:00 AM Pacific Time.

Directions

From Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), take the Los Trancos entrance at the major traffic light between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach. When driving southbound from Newport Beach, it's the first light south of Newport Coast Drive. From Laguna Beach heading north, it's the first light after Crystal Heights Drive. Park in the Los Trancos lot across PCH, then use the pedestrian tunnel under the highway to access the Historic District cottages.
