About
Courtney Lake Campground is a peaceful Forest Service campground in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, situated on a 33-acre lake known for its trout fishing. The campground features 21 well-spaced sites arranged in a single loop, accommodating everything from tents to larger motorhomes. Two additional walk-in sites offer a more secluded tent camping experience.
What sets Courtney Lake apart is its equestrian facilities. Six sites are designated for horse camping, each equipped with corrals (either two 12x12 corrals or one 30x12 corral with highline posts). A hitching post and mounting block are available near the restroom. This is the only equestrian trail system in the Ottawa National Forest, making it a destination for riders.
Every campsite includes a wooden picnic table, fire ring, lantern post, and parking spur. The campground provides four vault toilets (one ADA-accessible near site #5) and two pressurized water faucets. A concrete boat ramp offers free lake access for motorized and non-motorized boats. The 2.2-mile Circle of Life Trail with a bog viewing platform connects to the campground, accessible to motorized wheelchairs.
