Special Weather Statement issued May 22 at 3:49AM EDT by NWS Marquette MI

3:49 AM — 8:00 PM

Gusty southeast winds as high as 20 to locally 25 mph, combined with dry conditions will lead to elevated wildfire potential this afternoon across most of Upper Michigan away from the shorelines of the Great Lakes. Avoid outdoor burning today. Immediately report any wildfires to local emergency services by calling 911. Burn restrictions remain in effect. About

Twin Lakes State Park sits in Michigan's Copper Country, about 26 miles from Houghton. The 175-acre modern campground occupies the southwest shore of Lake Roland, which is renowned as one of the warmest inland lakes in the Upper Peninsula. The 62 electric campsites include lakefront options near the designated swimming beach and boat launch. All sites feature 20 or 30-amp electrical service, with 50-amp available at select sites. A mini-cabin sleeping four is also available for rent. The campground provides modern amenities including a handicapped-accessible shower and restroom building, potable water throughout, and a sanitation station for RV waste disposal. Fishing, boating, and swimming are the primary draws, with Lake Roland offering excellent warmwater fishing. A 1.5-mile nature trail with Lake Superior overlooks provides hiking opportunities. Twin Lakes is one of just a few Michigan state parks that permits ORV operation between the campground and nearby trail systems, including the Bill Nicholls Trail. This makes it a popular base for off-road enthusiasts exploring the extensive Upper Peninsula trail network.
