About

Cottonwood Flat Campground offers a quintessential backcountry experience in the remote reaches of Modoc National Forest. Situated at 4,680 feet elevation adjacent to a meadow, this small campground provides just a handful of sites for campers seeking solitude away from the crowds. The Devil's Garden Ranger District manages this area, which typifies the high desert plateau landscape of northeastern California. This is a primitive, no-frills camping destination with no potable water and no restroom facilities. Campers must be fully self-sufficient, bringing all water supplies and prepared to pack out all waste. The reward for this extra preparation is access to a peaceful, uncrowded setting surrounded by the juniper woodlands and open meadows characteristic of the Modoc region. The campground is generally accessible from mid-May through October, depending on weather conditions.
