Cottonwood Flat Campground is located at 4,680 feet elevation in the Devil's Garden Ranger District, offering a truly secluded experience for those seeking solitude and quiet nights under the stars. This primitive campground operates first-come, first-served and is generally accessible from mid-May through October, depending on snow and weather conditions. The campground is accessed by traveling 4 miles west of Canby on Highway 299, turning west at the Canby Bridge on County Road 84, and continuing 8 miles to the campground. While amenities are minimal, the campground provides a peaceful base camp for exploring the surrounding area. Henski Reservoir is nearby for wildlife viewing and the distinctive geology and timeless landscape of the Modoc National Forest. This is a true primitive camping experience with no potable water or restroom facilities available. Campers must bring all necessary supplies including water, and pets must remain on leash within the campground. The 14-day stay limit applies. The low-use nature of this campground makes it ideal for those seeking a quiet, remote camping experience away from crowded facilities.
