Reservoir C Campground is a primitive lakeside camping destination in the Devil's Garden Ranger District of Modoc National Forest. Located close to the boat ramp and directly on the water, the campground offers scenic, partly shaded campsites in a quiet setting. With virtually no light pollution, it's highly recommended for amateur astronomers and those seeking dark skies. This free campground provides vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own. There is no garbage service; pack-it-in, pack-it-out practices are required. The campground accommodates both motorized and non-motorized boating, and the reservoir offers fishing opportunities. Sites are available first-come, first-served with a 14-day camping limit. The campground is accessible via a combination of paved and forest roads from Alturas, traveling west on Highway 299, then north on Crowder Flat Road/County Road 73, and finally west on Forest Road 43N18. The area typically opens mid-May and closes in late October depending on weather and snow conditions.

Directions

From Alturas travel west on Highway 299 for 3 miles. Turn north on Crowder Flat Road/County Road 73 and travel 9.6 miles to Forest Road 43N18. Turn left on 43N18 and continue approximately 7 miles, following signs to Reservoir C Campground.
