About

Reservoir C Campground is a free, primitive campground located directly on Reservoir C in the Devil's Garden Ranger District of Modoc National Forest. The waterfront sites are quiet, scenic, and partly shaded, with a boat ramp adjacent to the campground entrance. Shoreline fishing is excellent, and both motorized and non-motorized boating are popular activities. The remote location provides nearly nonexistent light pollution, making this one of the best stargazing spots in northeastern California and a recommended destination for amateur astronomers. The Modoc Backcountry Discovery Trail passes nearby, offering 200 miles of backcountry exploration across elevations from 4,300 to 7,600 feet. This is a primitive campground with vault toilets but no potable water, hookups, or garbage service. Campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash, fish remains, and pet waste. Dogs are allowed on leash only. The campground operates first-come, first-served with a 14-day stay limit.
