Copper Creek Dispersed #5 is a primitive dispersed camping area located within the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest in Granite County, Montana. Situated at approximately 5,500 feet elevation in the Pintler Ranger District, this site provides access to the Copper Creek drainage area near the Middle Fork of Rock Creek, which is known for quality fishing opportunities. As a dispersed camping site, this location offers a backcountry experience without developed amenities. Campers should be self-sufficient and prepared for primitive conditions. The area is surrounded by forested terrain typical of southwest Montana's mountain landscape. Access roads may be rough and require high-clearance vehicles, particularly in wet conditions. The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest enforces a mandatory forest-wide food storage order due to bear activity, so proper food storage equipment is required. Forest regulations limit camping to 16 accumulated days within any 30-day period. Winter access is severely limited or impossible due to snow accumulation at this elevation, with roads typically becoming impassable from late fall through spring.

Directions

From Philipsburg, travel south on Highway 1 for approximately 6.5 miles. Turn west onto Highway 38 and continue for 9 miles. Then, turn south onto Middle Fork Road (Forest Service Road 5106) and proceed about 10 miles to reach the campground.
