About
Copper Creek Dispersed #1 is a dispersed camping area located in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest in southwest Montana. Situated in Granite County at approximately 5,500 feet elevation, this primitive camping site is near Copper Creek and the Middle Fork of Rock Creek drainage area. The location offers backcountry camping in a forested mountain environment. As a dispersed camping site, this area does not have developed facilities such as tables, fire rings, toilets, or water. Campers must be self-sufficient and practice Leave No Trace principles. The area is near the established Copper Creek Campground but provides a more primitive camping experience for those seeking solitude and a true backcountry setting. The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest allows dispersed camping throughout much of its area, providing opportunities for free primitive camping. Winter access to this area may be limited or restricted due to snow accumulation at this elevation, and road conditions should be checked before planning a trip.
Directions
From Philipsburg, travel south on Highway 1 for about 6.5 miles. Take Highway 38 west for 9 miles. Turn onto Middle Fork Road (Forest Road 5106) and continue approximately 10 miles to the campground.
