About
Cooper Canyon Trail Camp sits at 6,800 feet in the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument within Angeles National Forest. This primitive backcountry camp is accessible via a 2.5-mile hike from either Burkhart Trailhead at Buckhorn Campground or the Cloudburst Summit/Pacific Crest Trail trailhead off CA-2. The camp connects to the Burkhart Trail and High Desert National Recreation Trail system. The camp offers 5 group sites equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings or Klamath stoves. A vault toilet is available, but there are no trash receptacles or potable water. Seasonal stream water may be available nearby but must be treated before use; water flow can be low or non-existent during dry periods. Bear-proof storage boxes are provided for food and scented items. No camping fee is charged, though an Adventure Pass ($5/day or $30/year) is required for parking at trailheads. The camp is managed by Mountain High concessionaire. Snow may cover portions of the trail depending on winter snowfall, and campfires require a valid California Campfire Permit when fire restrictions allow.
