About

Cold Spring Indian Camping Area is located in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Skamania County, Washington, near the Indian Heaven Wilderness at approximately 3,900 feet elevation. This is a tribal-only camping area that is not open to the general public. The site is part of the historically significant huckleberry harvesting grounds used by multiple tribes including the Yakama Nation, Klickitat, Wishram, and other Columbia River tribes for centuries. A 1932 Handshake Agreement between the U.S. Forest Service and tribal representatives reserved certain areas in this region for exclusive tribal use during the traditional summer huckleberry harvest. Public campers should seek alternative campgrounds in the area such as Cultus Creek Campground or other established Forest Service campgrounds that are open to general recreation.
