About

Upper Little Truckee Campground is located along the Little Truckee River at an elevation of 6,200 feet in Tahoe National Forest. The campground is situated 12 miles north of Truckee on Highway 89, making it an accessible base camp for exploring the northern Sierra Nevada region. A forest of lodgepole pine, aspen, and juniper trees provides partial shade throughout the campground, with select sites offering direct river views. The Little Truckee River is the main attraction, offering fishing opportunities for rainbow and brown trout. The surrounding area provides access to numerous hiking and mountain biking trails. The campground's location offers convenient access to Truckee, just 10 minutes south, which provides full services including restaurants, shopping, and historic sites. Lake Tahoe is 30 minutes south, while Stampede Reservoir, Sardine Lakes in the Lakes Basin, and various OHV trails are within a 35-40 minute drive. Bears are active in the area, and all food must be stored in approved bear-resistant containers or vehicle trunks. Fire restrictions may be imposed during hot, dry conditions. The campground operates on a reservation system through Recreation.gov during its seasonal operating period.

Directions

From Interstate 80 in Truckee, take exit 188 onto Highway 89 north toward Sierraville. Drive approximately 12 miles north. The campground entrance is on the left.
