About

Cochiti Campground is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at one of the ten largest earth-fill dams in the United States. The campground occupies the west side of Cochiti Lake in the high desert foothills of the Jemez Mountains, surrounded by juniper, pinon, and mixed grasslands. Four osprey nesting platforms around the lake provide wildlife viewing opportunities, and the area supports deer, coyote, river otters, rabbits, and occasional bears. The campground's four loops accommodate both RV and tent camping. Buffalo Grove Loop features water and electric hookups at every site, while Juniper Loop has electric at all sites with shared water spigots requiring a 100-foot hose. Elk Run and Ringtail Loops are non-electric with community water spigots. Two waterborne restroom buildings serve the campground, one with paid hot showers, plus additional vault toilet buildings. Two dump stations are available. The no-wake lake is popular for paddling, windsurfing, sailing, and fishing for bass, crappie, walleye, northern pike, catfish, and trout. Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument lies five miles away with its distinctive geological formations. Note that wood campfires and alcohol are prohibited throughout the recreation area.
