About
Cerrillos Hills State Park is a unique, year-round, day-use only park situated off the Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. The park is renowned for its extensive mining history, which spans over 1,100 years, and visitors can explore five miles of scenic trails featuring interpretive signs and views of multiple New Mexico mountain ranges. Facilities include a visitor center open on weekends, offering park brochures, local information, and exhibits on the region's natural and cultural heritage. There are several programs held throughout the year that highlight the park's resources and history, and a Centennial Room can be reserved for group meetings or events. Equestrian use is popular, and special events may be scheduled in the evenings. The park does not offer overnight camping; it is strictly for daytime recreational use such as hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, and picnicking. No campfires, hookups, or RV camping are permitted, and visitors are required to pack out trash. Pets must be leashed at all times. Historic mine features are safeguarded and signed, and the park encourages stewardship and respect for local flora, fauna, and private property boundaries. With its blend of history, scenic beauty, and recreational opportunities, Cerrillos Hills State Park is an inviting destination for day visitors seeking a glimpse of New Mexico's mining heritage and natural landscapes.
