About
Clark Fork Horse Camp is a specialized equestrian campground located in the scenic high country of Stanislaus National Forest, approximately 25 miles east of Pinecrest on Clark Fork Road. Positioned five miles from the junction of Clark Fork Road and Highway 108, the campground sits near both Clark Fork Campground and the Iceberg Meadow Trailhead, providing convenient access to wilderness riding opportunities. The campground features 13 numbered sites with some picnic tables, three vault toilets, and a stock watering trough. Road and parking pads are dirt to accommodate horse trailers. Campers must bring their own water, as no potable water is available on-site, though water can be treated or filtered from nearby sources. Existing fire rings are available at sites, and campers are asked to use designated sites only. The Forest Service operates this facility in conjunction with the Backcountry Horsemen of California Mid-Valley Unit and suggests a donation to cover maintenance costs. The campground operates first-come, first-served with a maximum of six people per site and a 14-day stay limit. Its proximity to wilderness trails makes it an ideal base camp for multi-day horseback riding adventures in the Central Sierra backcountry.
