About

Challis Hot Springs sits on the banks of the Salmon River, roughly 70 miles from the headwaters of the "River of No Return." Originally a 5th-generation family operation, it became a unit of Land of the Yankee Fork State Park on May 1, 2023, and is now managed by Idaho Parks and Recreation. The campground features mature trees, irrigated grass sites, and direct access to two naturally heated pools: a large 100×30-foot pool maintained around 96-100°F and a smaller 25×18-foot pool at approximately 105°F. Camping options include standard RV sites with electric hookups, companion RV sites for groups, and tent camping areas. RV sites accommodate one camping unit, two vehicles, two tents, and up to eight people. The location is ideal for launching kayaking or rafting trips, fishing for trout and steelhead, or observing the Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep herd that frequents the cliffside above the property. Facilities include flush toilets, indoor showers, fire rings, and a dump station. Day-use swimming in the hot pools costs $10 per person, with children 5 and under free. A $7 motor vehicle entrance fee applies unless displaying an Idaho State Passport.
