About

Herd Lake Campground is a small, primitive Bureau of Land Management campsite tucked below the road alongside Herd Creek in Custer County, Idaho. This single-site campground sits approximately one mile north of Herd Lake and serves as a gateway to the adjacent Jerry Peak-Jim McClure Wilderness. The site is first-come, first-served with no reservations accepted. Amenities are basic: one vault toilet, a picnic table, and a fire ring. Campers must bring their own drinking water as no potable water is available on site. A trail from the campground provides non-motorized access to Herd Lake for hiking, fishing, and wilderness exploration. The access road to the campsite is narrow with limited turnaround space; trailers should be used with caution. Cell service is limited in this remote area. The campground is free with a 14-day stay limit.
