Nestled on the sandy shores of Lake Michigan in the village of Pentwater, Charles Mears State Park is a 50-acre beachside retreat renowned for its stunning sunsets. The modern campground features 175 paved sites divided into east and west loops, all surrounded by fine sand and within short walking distance to the beach. The park was gifted to the State of Michigan in 1923 by Carrie Mears, daughter of community founder Charles Mears. The park offers a buoyed swim beach with accessible walkways, an accessible fishing pier, and a quarter-mile interpretive nature trail. A modern beach house provides restrooms, changing areas, and a concession stand selling food, firewood, and supplies. The campground includes modern amenities such as electrical hookups at all sites, flush toilets and showers, a dump station, and WiFi. Several pull-through sites are available, and the location provides easy access to the charming downtown Pentwater area with its shops and restaurants. Additional facilities include a playground on rubberized surface, picnic areas with grills, a pet-friendly beach section at the south end, and free EV fast-charging stations. The park is situated on the north side of the channel connecting Lake Michigan and Pentwater Lake, with the popular "Old Baldy" sand dune behind the campground. Winter activities include ice fishing on Pentwater Lake and year-round fishing from adjacent piers.
