About

S Rock Camp 004 is a designated dispersed camping site within the Hyalite Recreation Area of the Custer Gallatin National Forest, situated in Gallatin County, Montana. The site lies within the Hyalite-Porcupine-Buffalo Horn Wilderness Study Area, a rugged landscape spanning approximately 36 miles long south of Bozeman. As a designated dispersed site, camping is permitted only at signed locations marked with carsonite posts featuring a tent symbol. The Hyalite drainage has strict fire regulations requiring all campfires to be completely contained in permanent metal fire rings at established sites. Bears frequent the area, and all food must be stored in approved containers or secured when the campsite is unoccupied. This is a primitive site with no developed amenities. Campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. A 16-day consecutive stay limit and 32-day cumulative limit per calendar year applies to all Custer Gallatin National Forest lands.
