About
Tom Miner Campground is a remote mountain campground located at 7,100 feet elevation in the Gallatin Mountains, bordering the Hyalite Porcupine Buffalo Horn Wilderness Study Area. Situated in Paradise Valley northwest of Yellowstone National Park, this campground serves as a gateway to the backcountry and offers exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities including deer, elk, and numerous bird species.
The campground has 16 individual campsites and 2 group sites, all managed on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The largest parking spur is 12 feet by 40 feet, and the access road is not suitable for vehicles longer than 40 feet. Amenities include hand-pumped drinking water, accessible vault toilets, and bear-resistant food storage boxes at each site. No trash service or firewood is provided, so campers must pack out all trash and bring their own firewood.
Horse camping is popular here, with corrals available adjacent to the campground at the upper end near the Gallatin Petrified Forest Trail trailhead. The area offers excellent hiking, fishing, and opportunities to explore petrified forest remnants. The campground tends to fill on summer weekends and holidays, so early afternoon arrival is recommended.
Directions
