About
Canaveral National Seashore preserves 24 miles of pristine Atlantic coastline and diverse ecosystems along Florida's east coast. The seashore offers primitive backcountry camping on 14 designated islands scattered throughout Mosquito Lagoon and the Intracoastal Waterway. These remote campsites provide an exceptional opportunity to experience Florida's natural estuaries, mangroves, and wildlife in solitude. All island campsites are accessible only by personal watercraft such as motorboats, kayaks, or canoes. The 14 sites vary in capacity from 6 to 60 people and include both natural islands and spoil islands. Canoe rentals are available for sites 1-5 through the Apollo Beach Visitor Center. Each site is primitive with no amenities provided; campers must bring all supplies including water. Reservations are required and can be made up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov for $25 per night. The seashore's unique location between the Atlantic Ocean and Indian River Lagoon creates habitat for diverse wildlife including manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, and over 300 bird species. The area's rich history spans from ancient Timucuan settlements to early 20th-century citrus groves, all while sharing boundaries with Kennedy Space Center.
Directions
