East Camp Zone Little Big Econ State Forest

Open year-round, first-come first-served with no fee and no reservation required. Camp zones may be inaccessible during high water periods. A State Forest Use Permit is required and available at the forest office.

About

East Camp Zone at Little Big Econ State Forest provides a remote, primitive camping experience along the Econlockhatchee River in Seminole County, roughly 40 miles east of Orlando. The six designated camp zones are situated on sand riverbanks and are accessible only by canoe, kayak, or other watercraft. This is true backcountry camping with no facilities whatsoever. Campers must be fully self-sufficient: there is no drinking water, no restrooms, and no trash service. Fires are permitted directly on the sand riverbanks using only dead and down wood collected from your immediate burn area. The river corridor supports excellent wildlife viewing opportunities including bald eagles, sandhill cranes, deer, and gopher tortoise. Be aware that the camp zones may become inaccessible during periods of high river levels. Alligators and venomous snakes are present, and hunters use the surrounding wildlife management area seasonally, so wearing blaze orange is recommended during hunting season.
