About

East Camp Zone Little Big Econ State Forest offers a true wilderness experience for paddlers seeking solitude along the Econlockhatchee River. Located about 40 miles east of Orlando in Seminole County, this primitive camping area is accessible only by boat and consists of six suggested camp zones scattered along the narrow, winding river, which is designated as an Outstanding Florida Waterway. The campground provides no amenities, facilities, or drinking water. Campers must be entirely self-sufficient and pack out all trash and waste. Fires are permitted only on the sand river banks, and campers should bring charcoal or camp stoves as backup depending on available dead and down wood. The forest supports diverse wildlife including deer, turkey, alligators, gopher tortoises, bald eagles, and sandhill cranes. This area is not reservable and has no camping fee. Visitors should be aware that during certain times of year, camp zones may be inaccessible due to high river levels. During hunting season, campers are recommended to wear 500 square inches of blaze orange. Pets are not recommended but if brought must remain leashed, and alcohol is prohibited throughout the camping area.
