About

Beaver Creek Cabin sits at approximately 7,000 feet elevation in a wooded canyon near Beaver Creek, tucked beneath 11,316-foot Hilgard Peak in the Madison Range. This primitive, rustic Forest Service cabin offers an authentic backcountry experience with basic amenities: a wood stove for heating, table and chairs, sleeping loft, two bunk beds, and three sleeping pads. Firewood is provided October through May for indoor use only. A vault toilet is located outside, and a hitching rail accommodates horses. The cabin is located 21 miles northwest of West Yellowstone, Montana. Summer access is via Forest Service Road 985, while winter visitors must snowmobile, ski, or snowshoe 3.5 miles from the Refuge Point parking lot on Highway 287. Several trailheads near the cabin lead into the Lee Metcalf Wilderness, offering hiking, horseback riding, and access to high mountain lakes. Winter activities include snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Yellowstone National Park is within 30 miles, and Hebgen Lake offers additional recreation about 10 miles away. Grizzly bears frequent the area, so all food, coolers, and garbage must be stored inside the cabin. There is no potable water, electricity, or cell service; guests must pack in all supplies and pack out all trash.

Directions

From West Yellowstone: Drive 8 miles north on US Highway 191, turn left onto US Highway 287/Hebgen Lake Road and continue 14.5 miles, turn right on Beaver Creek Road/Forest Service Road 985 and drive 3.5 miles. The cabin access road is on the right; open the locked gate using the combination provided in your reservation confirmation. Winter: Park at the Refuge Point lot on Highway 287 and travel 3.5 miles by snowmobile, skis, or snowshoes.
