About

Cabin Colony is part of Brannan Island State Recreation Area, located in the heart of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta near Rio Vista in Sacramento County. Positioned between the Sacramento River, Three Mile Slough, and Seven Mile Slough, this campground serves as a gateway to the extensive Delta waterways system. The park encompasses diverse recreation opportunities centered around water activities. Anglers can fish for striped bass, black bass, sturgeon, bluegill, catfish, perch, and bullhead throughout the year, with late fall through early spring offering some of the best fishing. The ten-lane boat launch provides excellent access to the Delta's waterways for boating, windsurfing, and exploration. Swimming areas and beaches are available during warmer months. The nearby Little Frank's Tract protected wetland marsh is home to beaver, muskrat, river otter, mink, and over 76 species of birds, making it ideal for wildlife viewing. The Delta climate is mild year-round, with winter temperatures typically between 45-55°F and summer temperatures ranging from 75-95°F. The park experiences heavy use from May through October, while winter and early spring months offer a quieter experience. Brannan Island is located on Highway 160 between the Bay Area and Sacramento, providing convenient access from either direction.

Directions

Located on Highway 160 a few miles south of Rio Vista in Sacramento County. The park is situated on the lower peninsular extension of Brannan Island, surrounded by the Sacramento River on the west, Three Mile Slough on the southeast, and Seven Mile Slough on the northeast.
