About

Mount Diablo State Park Group Campground offers primitive group camping in one of the Bay Area's most iconic natural landmarks. The campground includes five group sites: Stagecoach, Boundary, Buckeye, Wildcat, and Barbecue Terrace, each accommodating between 20 and 50 people. The Barbecue Terrace site is specially equipped with horse ties for equestrian groups and can handle up to 50 horses and 50 people. All group sites are tent-only and primitive, featuring picnic tables, fire pits, and vault toilets. Running water is available but subject to seasonal availability. RVs are not permitted in the group camping areas due to narrow, winding access roads. The campground sits within Mount Diablo State Park's 20,000 acres of protected lands featuring remarkable biodiversity with over 600 plant species and diverse wildlife habitats. From the 3,849-foot summit, visitors enjoy one of the world's finest views spanning over 200 miles on clear days, encompassing 40 of California's 58 counties, from the Farallon Islands to the Sierra Nevada. The park offers over 100 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails ranging from easy to difficult. Rock City features unique wind-carved formations including the Wind Caves and Elephant Rock. The historic Summit Visitor Center, constructed in the 1930s from fossiliferous sandstone, showcases the mountain's cultural and geological significance. Reservations are made through ReserveCalifornia up to six months in advance.
