About

Perched on a plateau at 3,000 feet elevation on the slopes of Mount Diablo, Juniper Campground is the largest and highest campground in Mount Diablo State Park. The campground features 36 individual campsites set among juniper and oak trees, with spectacular westward views overlooking the San Ramon Valley and the greater Bay Area. On clear days, campers can see as far as the Golden Gate Bridge from the nearby Diablo Valley Overlook. The campground provides flush toilets, coin-operated showers, and potable water, though water availability may be affected during drought conditions. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring. Three ADA-accessible campsites (sites 9, 10, and 19) feature accessible parking, level tent areas, and an accessible restroom/shower building. The campground can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 20 feet, but no hookups are available. Pets are allowed in the campground but are prohibited on trails. Juniper Campground serves as an excellent base for exploring Mount Diablo State Park. The Juniper Trail passes directly by the campground and is part of the 7-mile Great Loop that circumnavigates the mountain. The Summit Visitor Center is a short drive away and offers panoramic views spanning over 100 miles on clear days. Gates open at 8:00 AM and close at sunset, and visitors should plan to exit before sunset to avoid being locked in. Reservations are available up to six months in advance through ReserveCalifornia.
