About

Buzzard Roost Campground sits on the scenic bluffs of Hoosier National Forest in Perry County, Indiana, offering what many consider the best overlook views in the forest. From the cliff-edge platform, campers can see far into Kentucky and watch the Ohio River wind through the bottomlands below. The campground has five numbered primitive sites tucked into hardwood forest, each with a picnic table, grill, and fire ring. This is a no-fee, first-come first-served campground open year-round. A single vault toilet serves the area, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Firewood collection is limited to dead and downed material; outside firewood must meet Forest Service requirements to prevent invasive species spread. Quiet hours are 10 PM to 6 AM. The Buzzard Roost Trail begins near the campground and descends 0.8 miles through sandstone outcrops and seasonal waterfalls to the banks of the Ohio River. The trail is marked with white diamonds and rated arduous due to the steep grade.

Directions

From I-64 exit 86, proceed south on Indiana 66 through Oriole, then continue 1.5 miles further and turn left on Onido Road toward Boone Creek and Buzzard Roost Road.
