About
Located two miles northeast of Dunton along West Dolores Road (Forest Road 535), Burro Bridge Campground offers 14 sites with limited shade on a sloping hillside above the West Dolores River. This horse camp features two corrals adjacent to two campsites, each bay accommodating two horses per day for an additional fee. The campground serves as an excellent basecamp for horseback riding and hiking into the nearby Lizard Head Wilderness. Services include vault toilets, picnic tables, fire grates, and potable water during the main season. No trash service is provided, and campers must pack out all waste. Parking pads accommodate RVs up to 35 feet, with no overflow parking available. One site features a wheelchair-accessible picnic table. The campground provides easy access to wilderness trails but limited direct river access. The West Dolores Road is a gravel surface route that follows the West Dolores River nearly to its headwaters. After 32 miles, the road rejoins Highway 145 north of Rico, though the final 6 miles are steep, narrow, and not recommended for trailers.

From Dolores, head north on Highway 145 about 13 miles. Turn left onto West Dolores Road (Forest Road 535). Burro Bridge Campground is two miles northeast of Dunton. The road is gravel surface; the last 6 miles are steep, narrow, and not recommended for trailers.
