About
Mary E Campground sits in a forested setting along the South Fork of the San Miguel River, approximately 6 miles west of Telluride. The campground features 20 designated sites, each with a fire ring and picnic table, numbered posts marking each location. The area provides access to hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking trails, including the Galloping Goose Trail which follows an old railroad grade into Telluride. The campground operates under a unique dual-management system. During the annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival in mid-June, Planet Bluegrass manages the area and requires bundled camping/festival passes for overnight stays. Outside of the festival, the USFS operates Mary E as a standard first-come, first-served campground from July 2 through October 1, charging $20 per night. Facilities are primitive: portable toilets and a dumpster are provided, but there is no potable water available. Campers should bring their own water supply. RVs and trailers are limited to 22 feet in length. Dogs are permitted but must remain leashed at all times within the campground.
Directions
From Telluride, travel approximately 6 miles west on State Highway 145 toward Placerville. Turn south on County Road 63L (Illium Road) and drive 1.5 miles. Mary E Campground is on the west side of the road.
