About

Bull Bend Campground occupies a unique location on a small peninsula nearly encircled by the Deschutes River in the Deschutes National Forest. Situated just below the Wickiup Reservoir Dam, the campground spans about 10 acres and provides excellent fishing access along the riverbanks or via non-motorized watercraft. A boat launch is available within the campground for drift fishing, though motorized boating is not permitted in this area. The water offers Class II flatwater conditions extending about 6 miles below Sunriver before reaching dangerous falls. The campground features large sites that can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 40 feet, though the access road is gravel and dirt, requiring slower speeds for larger vehicles. Sites include basic amenities with vault toilets available but no potable water on-site. The campground's somewhat remote location and rough access road make it a well-kept secret among those seeking a peaceful riverside camping experience. Beyond fishing, the campground offers easy access to the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway with views of South Sister, Broken Top, and Mt. Bachelor. Nearby Newberry National Volcanic Monument, located about 25-30 miles away, features Lava Lands Visitor Center, Lava Butte, Lava River Cave, and the Newberry Caldera with Paulina and East Lakes.

Directions

From Bend, travel 26.8 miles south on Highway 97 to Wickiup Junction, then 10.5 miles west on County Road 43. Turn left on Forest Road 100 and follow south approximately one mile.
