About
Buffalo Springs Campground occupies a scenic rolling hillside in the Pike-San Isabel National Forest, 12.5 miles south of Fairplay at 9,000 feet elevation. The campground is tucked into a stand of aspen, spruce, and mixed conifers, offering 18 widely-spaced campsites with excellent privacy and mountain views. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table, with vault toilets and potable water available via hand pump. The area is well-suited for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and rock climbing. Buffalo Peaks Wilderness lies nearby with wilderness restrictions applying. On-site amenities include volleyball courts and horseshoe pits. Wildlife viewing opportunities include mule deer, bald eagles, and chipmunks. Antero Reservoir, the first man-made lake on the South Platte River, is the nearest large fishing and boating destination, producing trophy rainbow, brook, and cutthroat trout. The historic gold mining town of Fairplay offers an open-air museum recreating life during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush.
