About

Roberts Cabin stands as one of the most recognized historic structures in Pike & San Isabel National Forests, offering a unique glimpse into Colorado's mining and railroad past. Built in the 1880s, this primitive two-story log cabin has served many purposes throughout its history, including as a residence, blacksmith's shop, and stables. After careful restoration in 1993, the cabin was converted for rental use while maintaining its historic character and eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places. The cabin accommodates up to 10 guests across two floors connected by a steep staircase. Five double beds and one futon provide sleeping arrangements, while a full-size wood stove offers heat during the cooler months. The property includes a single vault toilet located outside and parking for up to four vehicles with limited trailer turnaround. Guests must come prepared, as no water, cooking utensils, pillows, or blankets are provided. Bring plenty of water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning, along with sleeping bags, cookware, flashlights, and firewood. Located in the South Park Ranger District near Como, the cabin offers impressive views of the Mosquito Range and sits at the base of Boreas Pass, an 11,492-foot mountain pass that traverses the Continental Divide between Como and Breckenridge. The location provides excellent access to hiking trails, including the extensive Colorado Trail that extends from Denver to Durango. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with possible sightings of elk, deer, moose, black bear, golden eagles, and great horned owls. The cabin operates seasonally and requires advance reservations through Recreation.gov.

Directions

From Denver, take Highway 285 southwest approximately 75 miles to Como. Turn north on County Road 33 and travel about 4 miles to the cabin. Parking is along the east side of the road. Guests must have the combination lock code from their Recreation.gov confirmation prior to arrival.
