About
Boyington Mill Campground is situated on the banks of the Little Truckee River, one of Northern California's best catch-and-release fly-fishing streams for rainbow and brown trout. The campground features 12 single-family sites in a sparse Jeffrey pine and fir forest with limited shade. Located just 20 minutes from Truckee and close to Interstate 80, the campground offers convenient access to backcountry recreation while remaining near town amenities. Stampede Reservoir lies less than six miles north, while Boca Reservoir is just a couple miles south, both offering excellent boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing opportunities. The surrounding Tahoe National Forest provides extensive hiking, mountain biking, and OHV trail networks. Designated OHV routes are accessible directly from the campground, though recreational riding within the campground itself is prohibited. Lake Tahoe is approximately 35 minutes away. The campground operates on a light-use basis and offers a peaceful setting for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. Campers must bring their own water or treat river water, as no potable water is available on-site. The area showcases typical Sierra Nevada terrain at moderate elevation along a scenic mountain river.
Directions
From Truckee, travel east on Interstate 80 for approximately 10 miles to the Hirschdale Road exit. Turn left (north) onto Hirschdale Road/Boca-Stampede Road and continue approximately 5 miles north. The campground is on the left along the Little Truckee River, about 4 miles north of Boca Dam.
