About
Borrego Mesa Campground sits on the edge of the Pecos Wilderness in Santa Fe National Forest, offering a quiet, primitive camping experience. The campground is designed with equestrians in mind, featuring small corrals at each site that can accommodate one or two horses. Picnic tables and fire pits are provided at every site. The campground is adjacent to the Rio Medio Trailhead, one of the major access points to the northern Pecos Wilderness. It sees light use and serves primarily as an overnight staging area for horsepacking and backpacking trips, though locals also use it for day picnicking. The setting is rustic and undeveloped compared to most Forest Service campgrounds. No potable water is available, and the vault toilet is currently not in service. Campers should come fully self-sufficient with water and sanitation supplies. There is ample space for trailers and RVs, but no hookups or dump station are provided.
