Bodega Dunes Campground is the primary camping facility at Sonoma Coast State Park, situated among spindly cypress trees and rolling sand dunes just north of Bodega Bay. The 99-site campground accommodates both tents and RVs up to 31 feet, though no hookups are available. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table, with flush restrooms, token-operated hot showers, potable water, and a dump station serving the campground. The campground offers a communal hike/bike site at sites 82-83 for travelers arriving on foot or by bicycle. Four ADA-accessible campsites and four accessible restrooms with showers are available, though shifting sand conditions may occasionally affect surface firmness. Beach wheelchairs can be borrowed on-site. Sonoma Coast State Park stretches along 17 miles of dramatic coastline featuring rocky headlands, secluded coves, and sandy beaches. While dogs are permitted in the campground on leash, they are prohibited on the dunes and beaches. The campground provides convenient access to coastal hiking, tidepooling, and wildlife viewing, though swimming is not recommended due to dangerous currents and cold water temperatures.

Directions

From Highway 101 in Petaluma, take the East Washington Street exit and head west. Continue as it becomes Bodega Avenue, then Highway 1. The campground is located about 1 mile north of Bodega Bay on Highway 1.
