Bobcat Rustic Campground

Closed

The rustic camping area is closed for the season. Rustic group camping operates October through April 15. The park is currently experiencing a water shortage with no filling allowed.

About

Bobcat Rustic is a primitive group camping area within Picacho Peak State Park, set in the open Sonoran Desert terrain at the base of the distinctive 1,500-foot volcanic peak that dominates the landscape. The area features abundant saguaro cacti, cholla, palo verde trees, and open desert flats with rocky ridges. The rustic sites provide a more undeveloped camping experience without electric, water, or sewer hookups, making it ideal for tent campers seeking an authentic desert experience. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Campers have access to modern, handicapped-accessible restroom and shower buildings. A dump station is available at the campground entrance. The campground operates seasonally from October through April 15, avoiding the extreme summer heat when temperatures regularly exceed 100°F. Sites are available by reservation only through Arizona State Parks. The park itself offers hiking trails including the challenging Hunter Trail to the summit, as well as historical markers commemorating the Civil War Battle of Picacho Pass.
