About

Whitetail Campground sits high on the slopes of the Santa Catalina Mountains at 8,000 feet, offering a cool forested retreat among ponderosa pines. Located about 30 miles north of Tucson via the Catalina Highway (Sky Island Scenic Byway), the campground is designed exclusively for large groups such as family reunions, church groups, and corporate outings. Five group sites range in capacity from 35 to 90 people, with nightly fees from $135 to $178 depending on the site. Each site includes a ramada with picnic tables, large fire pit, grill, bear box, and a 120-volt electrical outlet for small appliances like coffee pots or crockpots. Vault toilets are stocked and maintained, and potable water is available from a hand pump. RVs and generators are prohibited; this is a tents-only campground. Campground hosts live on site. The surrounding Coronado National Forest offers excellent hiking, including trails on 9,157-foot Mt. Lemmon. Rose Canyon Lake provides trout fishing nearby, and the small town of Summerhaven is just 5 miles up the road. The University of Arizona's SkyCenter observatory is also a short drive away.
