About
Showers Point Group Site sits high on the slopes of the Santa Catalina Mountains at 7,700 feet, providing cool relief from Tucson's desert heat. The campground features three spacious tent-only group sites spread among stands of towering ponderosa pines and clusters of Gambel oak. Each site includes a ramada for shade, picnic tables, large firepits, BBQ grills, and a 120-volt electrical outlet for small appliances like coffee makers and crockpots. Clean vault toilets are centrally located, and potable water is available from faucets during the operating season. Within easy walking distance is Showers Point overlook, one of the most dramatic viewpoints in the Santa Catalinas. From this towering bluff, visitors can see the lower slopes of the range and the Santa Cruz Valley stretching toward Mexico, with the pyramid-shaped Mt. Wrightson prominent on the horizon. The Palisade Trail departs from a nearby trailhead and descends the southwestern slopes to the popular Sabino Canyon Recreation Area. Rose Canyon Lake, offering fishing opportunities, is also nearby. The campground operates seasonally from approximately April through October, weather dependent. Reservations are required and can be made through Recreation.gov. The site is managed by Recreation Resource Management under a special use permit with Coronado National Forest. This is strictly a tent-camping destination with no trailer or RV access permitted.
