About
Located in the high country of Stanislaus National Forest along Highway 4, Bloomfield Campground occupies a scenic timbered setting on the banks of the North Fork Mokelumne River. Just 2.4 miles west of Ebbetts Pass and four miles north of Highland Lakes, the campground serves as a convenient base for anglers and hikers exploring this remote section of the Sierra Nevada. The campground features 20 campsites with picnic tables, fire rings, and grills scattered through a mature conifer forest. Each site provides basic amenities, and hand-pumped drinking water and vault toilets are available. The access road via Highland Lakes Road is not recommended for trailers, making this primarily a tent and small vehicle camping destination. Pack it in, pack it out principles apply as there is no garbage service. Fishing on the North Fork Mokelumne River is the primary draw, with trail access nearby for those wanting to explore the surrounding wilderness. The high elevation location means a short summer season, typically dependent on snow conditions. Highway 4 to Highland Lakes Road provides access 47 miles from the Calaveras Ranger Station in Hathaway Pines.
Directions
Take Highway 4 to Highland Lakes Road. Follow Highland Lakes Road one mile south to the campground. The turnoff from Highway 4 onto Highland Lakes Road is 47 miles from the Calaveras Ranger Station in Hathaway Pines, California.
