About
Mosquito Lakes Campground is a small, primitive developed campground situated in the Stanislaus National Forest along the Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway (Highway 4). Located approximately 6-8 miles east of Lake Alpine at an elevation of around 8,260 feet, this campground offers 11 sites with picnic tables near the scenic Mosquito Lakes. The area is popular for fishing and provides access to several hiking trails, including the Mosquito Lakes Trail and connections to the Mokelumne Coast to Crest Trail. This is a no-frills camping experience with vault toilets available but no potable water, electricity, or trash service. Campers must bring their own water or treat water from nearby natural sources. There is no garbage service, so visitors must pack out all trash following Leave No Trace principles. The campground's high elevation location means it is typically only accessible seasonally, and access is completely dependent on Highway 4 being open. The highway closes each winter due to snow, usually from late November or December through May.
Directions
From Lake Alpine on Highway 4, continue east for approximately 6-8 miles. The campground is located along Highway 4 at Mosquito Lakes.
