Black Rock Campground sits among one of the densest Joshua tree forests in Joshua Tree National Park, positioned on the park's northern perimeter just south of Yucca Valley. At 4,000 feet elevation, the campground offers a mix of sun and shade among the iconic trees that form dramatic silhouettes at sunrise and sunset. The facility includes 99 individual campsites plus 20 equestrian sites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. The campground serves as a hub for outdoor recreation, with numerous hiking trails offering spectacular views of the low desert and high peaks around Palm Springs. Popular rock climbing sites are within a 30-minute drive. The area provides excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, including desert tortoises, lizards, coyotes, ravens, and diverse bird species. Black Rock's proximity to Yucca Valley means shopping facilities are only five miles away. Facilities include flush toilets, potable water, a dump station, and an amphitheater. Generator use is permitted during three daily windows: 7-9 am, noon-2 pm, and 5-7 pm. The campground requires reservations year-round through Recreation.gov, bookable up to six months in advance. One ADA-compliant site (site 61) accommodates RVs up to 30 feet.

Directions

From Interstate 10, take Route 62 east to Yucca Valley. Turn south on Joshua Lane (Palomar Ave becomes Joshua Lane) and follow signs for approximately five miles. Turn left onto San Marino Drive which becomes Black Rock Canyon Road and continue to the campground entrance.
