About

Black Rock Campground lies among one of the thickest Joshua tree forests in Joshua Tree National Park. At 4,000 feet elevation, the campground offers a mix of sun and shade with temperatures most comfortable from October through May. The unique silhouettes of Joshua trees frame spectacular sunrises and sunsets, with white flower blooms appearing in early spring. Wildlife sightings may include desert tortoises, lizards, coyotes, ravens, and various bird species. The 99 individual campsites accommodate both tents and RVs up to 35 feet, though not all sites can handle longer vehicles. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with flush toilets and potable water nearby. A dump station and water fill station are located near campsite 6, each available for $5. There are no hookups at any Joshua Tree campground. Generator use is restricted to 7-9 AM, noon-2 PM, and 5-7 PM. Black Rock also offers equestrian camping with designated horse camps for those traveling with stock. The campground serves as a staging point for numerous hiking trails with views of the surrounding desert landscape and nearby rock climbing areas.
