Rocks at Indian Cove, Joshua Tree National Park
Open

About

Indian Cove Campground is tucked into the northern section of Joshua Tree National Park, surrounded by the massive granite boulders that have made this desert landscape famous among rock climbers worldwide. The 101 individual campsites are spread across a flat, sandy surface with Joshua trees and desert shrubs scattered between towering rock formations that glow with soft pastel hues at sunrise and sunset. At 3,200 feet elevation, the campground experiences mild winter temperatures ideal for camping from October through May. The campground operates as a primitive facility with pit toilets and fire grates at each site but no potable water or hookups. Water is available two miles away at the Indian Cove Ranger Station. Reservations are required year-round and can be made up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov. Some sites accommodate RVs with a maximum combined length of 35 feet including towed vehicles. Several hiking trails depart from the campground, including the easy 0.6-mile Indian Cove Nature Trail. Clear desert skies make this an excellent location for stargazing and night photography. Pets are permitted on leash within the campground and on dirt roads within 100 feet of roadways.
