Black Moshannon State Park

Black Moshannon State Park campground sits in a remote setting surrounded by over 43,000 acres of Moshannon State Forest in Centre County, Pennsylvania. The park's 250-acre lake features uniquely tea-colored water created by plant tannins as clear water flows through extensive sphagnum bog wetlands. This distinctive bog ecosystem supports rare plant species and provides excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. The campground offers 73 sites accommodating various camping styles. Site types include modern electric (44 sites), full-hookup with water/sewer/electric (12 sites), modern non-electric (7 sites), and tent-only (9 sites). Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern holder. Washhouses with flush toilets and hot showers serve the campground, along with coin-operated laundry facilities and a sanitary dump station. Some sites accommodate RVs up to 55 feet. Beyond camping, the park offers seasonal boat rentals on the lake, hiking trails through diverse habitats, fishing for warm-water species, and winter activities including cross-country skiing and ice fishing. The seasonal park store provides basic supplies and refreshments.

Directions

From the east via I-80: Take Exit 158 to Alt. US 220 South for 6 miles, then PA 504 West for 12 miles to the park. From the south via US 322: Take Exit 68 to Alt. US 220 North for 5 miles, then Beaver Road for 8 miles via Julian. The park is located 9 miles east of Philipsburg on PA 504.
